Search and organize prompts

Use search and organization tools to keep a growing library easy to browse.

Find a prompt

Press ⌘K on macOS or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux to open search. It finds prompt titles, descriptions, tags, notes, and saved version content. Start typing a word or part of a word, then select a result to open the prompt in Library on its current/default saved version. If several versions of one prompt match, the prompt appears once.

The smaller field above the prompt list filters the visible list by title, description, and tags. Use the full search when you need to find text from an older version or a note.

Copy a prompt with Quick access

The optional global prompt palette is a compact, copy-only view for using your library while another app is in front. Enable it under Settings → Quick access. The suggested shortcut is ⌘⇧Space on macOS and Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and Linux; choose Record new shortcut to use another key combination. Then press the registered shortcut while PromptBranch is running. The Open prompt palette application-menu item is always available as a fallback. On Windows and Linux, press Alt to reveal the menu bar first. Some Linux desktops may request system permission when you enable a global shortcut for the first time.

When the search is empty, the palette shows up to 20 recently updated prompts, with starred prompts first. Start typing to search titles, descriptions, tags, notes, and saved version content. Selecting a match found through saved history resolves the prompt's current saved version. Fill any {{variables}}, check the exact plain-text preview, then choose Copy prompt or press ⌘Enter / Ctrl+Enter. Search text and variable values are temporary and clear whenever the palette is dismissed.

The feature is off by default and does not launch PromptBranch or create a login item. Settings show whether the shortcut registered successfully. If a replacement conflicts with the system or another app, the previous working shortcut remains active while you choose another shortcut or retry.

On macOS, Quick access remains available after you close the library window as long as PromptBranch is still running. On Windows and Linux, closing the library window exits PromptBranch and disables the shortcut until the app starts again.

Filter and sort

Use Filters in the library to narrow the list by tag, starred state, or minimum rating. Sort prompts by when they were updated or created, by name, or by rating. Selecting a collection in the left rail shows its prompts.

For a quick tag filter, click a tag in the left rail, on a prompt card, or in the prompt details pane. Click that tag again to remove it from the filter. To reset all active filters, open Filters and choose Clear all.

Tags, collections, and stars

• Create a tag with the + beside Tags, then attach it to related prompts. A prompt can have several tags.
• Create a collection with the + beside Collections. To create a prompt inside it, right-click the collection and choose New Prompt, or select the collection and use the New prompt button above the prompt list.
• Add or remove an existing prompt through More actions → Move to collection…, or right-click it in the prompt list. A prompt can belong to more than one collection.
• Select the star on a prompt to put it in the Starred view.

Notes

Use the Notes tab to record context, test results, or usage guidance for a prompt. Notes can be attached to the prompt as a whole or to a specific version, and full search includes their contents.
